Let’s Talk Botox!

OK so let’s talk Botox!

First off, I am not a doctor so all opinions are from what I’ve learned ever since I started getting Botox at Advanced Aesthetics Lopez Plastic Surgery.

So for me it all started last year (2018). I’ve had those facial expression lines between my eyebrows for years but all of a sudden last year it really started bugging the heck out of me! For some crazy reason I had never asked my friends about Botox and nobody ever seemed to talk about it in my social circles! I thought maybe nobody did Botox (and I was the first one from my circle of friends that needed it) or everyone just wanted to keep in hush hush!

That was until I approached one of my good friends and she literally started laughing at me because she was like “EVERYONE is doing it! Where have you been?!” Wow what a relief! All of a sudden I didn’t feel so alone in the world of aging and I immediately felt the confidence to call Advanced Aesthetics Lopez Plastic Surgery to make my first appointment! One of the things I love about Dr. Manuel Lopez is that he believes in keeping a natural look and not a “plastic look” (I mean unless that’s you’re thing and that’s what you want).

It took about 10 days to see the full effect of the first 22 units of Botox that I did right between my eyebrows and all I can say is that I was immediately hooked!

So what is Botox?

It’s a protein injected into the muscles in order to temporarily remove wrinkles or lines formed from your facial expressions.  According to the Botox website “it was the first treatment FDA approved to temporarily make moderate to severe frown lines, crow’s feet and forehead lines look better in adults.  So you look like you, only with less noticeable facial lines.” It’s non-surgical so basically you’re in and out in less than 10 minutes!

As soon as the Botox is injected into your area of concern where you have those facial expression lines, the facial muscles in that area begin to be relaxed which then prevents movement in that particular area. The results are you no longer see the lines/ wrinkles that were there before! It can take anywhere from 7-14 days to see the effect of Botox and then you’ll notice that you’re face will look noticeably smoother within a week.

How long does the effect last?

The effects of Botox last from 3 – 4 months.  Then you have to go back and get it done again. So in a nutshell if you want to keep up that good smooth look, you’ll probably need to go get it about 3 – 4 times a year.

How much does it cost?

Botox can cost approx $10 – $12 per unit (depending on where you go).  Just so you get an idea….the first time I ever got Botox I got 22 units between my eyebrow area.  I’ve since gone back and started getting some on my forehead as a preventative measure and also a little bit on my crows feet. I told the doctor I wanted to keep a natural looking smile so he was very conservative with my treatment.

 

What is “Preventative Botox?”

In the past, Botox was usually related to older people who were already getting wrinkles but not anymore.  Since Botox is approved for people 18 years and older, younger people are getting it more and more as a “preventative” measure.  What does that mean? Basically, if you begin to see even the slightest facial expression lines, this means in a few years those lines will more than likely become wrinkles.  You can actually use Botox to help prevent that from happening.

 

Does it hurt?

In my experience, No.  Before I was injected they placed an ice pack on the area that would be treated and I couldn’t feel a thing.
