This post was sponsored by Always but all of the opinions are my own
Hey guys! I was just remembering this morning, as I enjoyed my morning coconut latte before going to barre class, that Momma Loves Fashion will almost reach it’s 2 year mark! Isn’t that amazing?! For almost 2 years I’ve been blessed to chat with all of you amazing fashionistas, about the latest style trends! However, I’m also thankful that I was able to create this space, this platform, so to speak, to share difficult subjects and raise awareness on certain issues…..things that have touched my heart as is the issue of Period Poverty.
I recently read some statistics regarding Period Poverty that just had me in shock! First of all, you may be asking, what is Period Poverty? I actually had no clue this issue even existed until recently. Period Poverty is basically having a lack of access to sanitary products like maxi-pads and tampons due to financial constraints. If you really think about it, we usually think these types of issues are only problems in third world countries, but did you know that 1 in 5 American girls have had to leave school early or even missed school entirely because of their lack of period products? Yes, here in America!
Did you know that at puberty, a girls confidence plummets? Her first period often marks that lowest point of her confidence during her teenage years. Imagine, you’re a little girl who is going through puberty and is now becoming a “woman”. Do you remember how awkward it felt to go through all those changes? OK, now imagine having to deal with all those changes and then having to literally miss school because your parents can’t afford to buy sanitary products? Those middle school and high school years are hard enough as it is, but these precious girls are having to miss out on many school activities due to Period Poverty. Usually a period can last anywhere from 3 – 7 days, so basically during the days they are menstruating, these girls are missing classes, getting behind in school work and missing out on fun school activities, like sports and clubs which helps boost their confidence! And this is all happening here in the U.S.! That was a major shocker to me!
For this reason I’m supporting Always this back-to-school season in helping raise awareness for such an important yet widely unknown cause. (By the way, I don’t know about you, but Always is the only brand I’ve ever used). Always wants to raise national awareness about the lack of access to period products by taking action to help #EndPeriodPoverty. In doing so Always is partnering up with Feeding America to reach their goal of donating 15 million period products through Feeding America’s school pantry program (which provides many things like food, toiletries and personal care products to kids who are in need).
Always is also partnering up with HEB to help tackle this problem by making a product donation every time a shopper buys Always. From July 29th – Sept 8th, for every Always product purchased at HEB, Always will donate additional product to a girl in need. Now I know this campaign started at the end of July and is ending soon, but you and I still have time! There’s a few more days to help out and do something kind for a young girl who may be experiencing this lack of access, so let’s band together and help #EndPeriodPoverty.
Hey, and remember that HEB now has the amazing Curbside Grocery Pickup service so you don’t even have to get off your vehicle to go and buy your Always products. Just think about it, by purchasing an Always products at your local HEB, you’ll be a huge blessing to a girl in need. She’ll be able to focus on her education rather than worry about how to deal with being on her period. And to think that all these years most of us have been taking sanitary products for granted, simply because we didn’t know Period Poverty was even an issue. Now that we do, let’s do something about it! It’s so simple!
Thanks again for stopping by!

I remember when I first found out about Period Poverty, I started donating a lot of clean sanitary products to Women’s shelters. Thank you so much for bringing attention to this issue!

Wow, thanks for sharing as I had no idea either. That is so incredibly sad that here in America there are women who are unable to get sanitary products and therefore are having to miss out on school. What a great thing Always and HEB are doing to help fix the problem.

I love that you’re taking the time to talk about this. It’s incredibly important to spread awareness, because it’s something that so many are completely clueless about. I’m glad for the fact that I always buy Always – because they’re really making a difference!

I love that Always is addressing period poverty! That’s something we learned about in college and started donated period items to local shelters and schools to increase access for people in our community.

People forget that women in need also need something we take for granted like sanitary products. Great charity!
